Members of the BMI are welcome to study or conduct research in the Pound Room research area during library open hours.

All facilities are available, computers, printing, wi-fi, and access to the vast amount of recorded data from the BMI collections, including newspapers, the 15,000 item Heritage book collection, 14,000 archival collection, photographs including the Max Harris and Herb Richmond compilations.

The research publications include a large Ballarat and Mining book list, the BMI Australian collection, Ballarat and Melbourne directories and titles such as ‘Citizens and Sports’, Dickers Mining Records, Mining accidents register, Hotels around Ballarat, and lots more.

You may work on your own project, or in collaboration with a group.

Full tuition will be given to enable access to the BMI information network.
